This is the neck I got through Ebay:

It's a lovely neck with the exception of the ding in the headstock. From the picture, I thought I could just fudge a paint job to fill it in, but now that I have the neck, I've discovered that the finish is a veneer. So just brushing some black paint into the chipped area won't look right. My son says to leave it as is, that it gives the neck some character. He may be right. The finish on the body isn't going to be professional looking, so the chip in the headstock will match the overall tone.
So this is where the project is at so far. I probably should get together with someone who has knowledge and experience in this sort of thing, and maybe I will at some point. But I'll try to figure it all out for now.

Jeff,
Hey old friend!
Thought I'd drop by. Yamaha, oh my. Great geetar. And, the best and most outlandish brand stereo speakers I ever bought, back in the day, had Yamaha speakers. And yes, I still have the turntable...and a Rotel - only the old boys will remember that brand -reciever/tuner.
Big bastards that would shake your fillings. Real wood, gorgeous and with a sound (and volume) that I have never heard matched. Sold them - biggest mistake of my life. Of course we were listening to Creedance Clearwater back then and Lynyrd too....
And the Wilson sisters...

Hey Jim,
How's the writing going?
I have this guitar almost finished, just need to reset the neck. Will be posting about it soon.
Loved the stereo systems of ago.
It all seems so plasticky these days.
Cheers, Jeff
